Chemical Peels

Chemical Peels in NJ and NYChemical peels can be done on the face, neck, back or hands. They can be used to:

  • Reduce fine lines under the eyes and around the mouth
  • Treat wrinkles caused by sun damage and aging
  • Improve the appearance of mild scars
  • Treat certain types of acne
  • Reduce age spots, freckles, and dark patches (melasma) due to pregnancy or taking birth control pills
  • Improve the look and feel of skin
  • Areas of sun damage may improve after chemical peeling.

Each peel has separate aftercare instructions. Please discuss this process with your provider during your procedure but in general please follow these instructions:

  • Wash your face with cool water. Warm or hot water might not feel as good as cool or cold water, which can help soothe post-peel sensations.
  • Moisturize and hydrate. Since peels can temporarily compromise your skin’s protective barrier, it’s important to reinforce that barrier with a medium-to-thick moisturizer. Also, drink more water to help avoid dehydration, which could make your skin feel tight.
  • Apply sunscreen with SPF30 or more. Your skin is more delicate after a peel, so avoid direct sun exposure, which can lead to even more visible signs of skin aging. If you must be exposed, use a Broad Spectrum physical sunscreen 30+ spf.
  • Avoid strenuous workouts, dry saunas and steam rooms. Increased blood circulation to the face can intensify warming, tingling, itching, redness or other uncomfortable side effects on freshly peeled skin. Skip such activities on the day you use a peel.
  • Don’t over-exfoliate. Peels are maximum-strength exfoliants, so you don’t need to use a separate exfoliant (like a scrub, brush or exfoliating cleanser) within 3-4 days of your peel. Over-exfoliating can lead to more redness, sensitivity or even scarring, so wait until your skin feels up to it.
  • Once your skin feels “back to normal” after a peel, it’s generally considered OK to resume your normal skin care regimen.

I have had the most incredible experience

I am so, so grateful for everyone at this office! I have had the most incredible experience with my breast reduction thanks to Dr. Schneider, Lisa, Michele and the rest of this staff. I had trouble getting my surgery covered by other offices and I ended up getting it covered through this office. I felt very comfortable and confident in Dr. Schneider after having my consultation with her and am so beyond happy with the results of my surgery! I got my surgery a month ago and Lisa and the rest of the staff have been extremely available at all times for any questions or concerns I was having afterwards. I have recommended this office to many people. They are so amazing!
