This helped shape her drive to take care of women patients, believing that “women caring for women” is a special category and can create a greater feeling of comfort and ease especially when going through a difficult time. She was driven by this goal through her time at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, where she graduated at the top of her class. Dr. Schneider was then accepted into the Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery at New York University for her six years of plastic surgery training, one of the premier and most prestigious programs in the country in the most selective speciality possible. There, she had the privilege of training for many years with Dr. Bob Allen, the pioneer of the DIEP flap. She continued her training at NYU for an additional year of microsurgery fellowship in order to further refine and extend her microsurgery and flap expertise.
Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Society of Microsurgeons, Dr. Schneider is an expert microsurgeon and a top DIEP flap surgeon. She combines her compassionate and caring approach to practice with the skills she learned in training and has continued to refine through years of practicing surgery. Dr. Schneider has spoken both nationally and internally on breast reconstruction and DIEP flap surgery in particular, publishing new flaps and new techniques in joint papers with Dr. Allen. She has written textbooks and journal articles focusing on this subject, including an article on breast reconstruction in the Journal of the American College of Surgeons, one of the top surgical journals in the world. She established the first microsurgery program at a number of different hospitals, including performing the first DIEP flap at Newark Beth Israel Hospital. Patients from all across the country have traveled to have surgery with Dr. Schneider, seeking out her care, experience and creative approach.
Every consultation and evaluation is completely individualized. Her goal is to create a breast reconstruction that is the right fit for the patient. For many, that is a DIEP flap which involves transferring the tissue from the belly that would be thrown away in a tummy tuck and using that to make a new breast (or two!).
Dr. Schneider is available for consultation both virtually and in our New York and New Jersey offices.
