Breast reduction surgery is a common solution for problems caused by breast hypertrophy, or the medical term for large, ptotic (drooping) breasts. This can affect women of all ages and can occur even among those in good physical shape. Breast hypertrophy can cause neck and back pain by stretching nerves and forcing you to stand and walk differently to compensate for the strain that the breasts put on your muscles and bones of your back. A woman’s posture is often negatively affected by breast hypertrophy.

Breast hypertrophy can alter your lifestyle by preventing you from participating in activities that may make you feel self-conscious due to the size of your breasts. Large breasts may prevent you from wearing the style of clothing that you prefer and large breasts can also cause low self-esteem, rashes, breathing problems and skeletal deformities.Sometimes large breasts can be out of proportion to the rest of your body. Breast reduction surgery with Dr. Norman Rowe, MD can help solve the problems that over-sized breasts can cause.
Dr. Norman Rowe is a board-certified plastic surgeon based in New York City and specializes in breast procedures. Dr. Norman Rowe Accepts Most Insurance. Breast reduction surgery can be performed with a variety of different techniques; Dr. Norman Rowe prefers to use the short-scar breast reduction technique. The short-scar technique, also known as the “lollipop incision,” is a novel method that can give better results than older methods with fewer and smaller scars. The short-scar technique reduces visible scars and recovery time from breast reduction procedures. The short-scar technique involves making a lollipop-shaped incision in the breast, with a ring around the nipple and a line extending part of the way down the underside of the breast. This allows your surgeon to reduce the size of the breast while giving you a natural and more youthful breast shape. Feeling and function of the nipple usually remains the same as it was prior to your procedure when this technique is used. The size of the areola can also be reduced to match the size of the reduced breasts. During your procedure, your doctor will remove glandular tissue and tighten skin to produce smaller, lighter breasts that are in better proportion to the rest of your body. Breast reduction surgery to reduce the size of your breasts is usually performed in an outpatient or ambulatory setting.
Breast reduction surgery is performed under general anesthesia and takes approximately two hours to complete the procedure. For a few days after your breast reduction the breasts are bound with an elastic bandage or a surgical bra and you may be given surgical drainage tubes for fluid removal. The average recovery time is about one week and is relatively pain-free. Any discomfort experienced after surgery is easily controlled with oral pain relief medication. The stitches are removed after a weekof recovery time and most women can return to their normal routine within about ten days of their breast reduction operation, but the surgical bra should be worn for about a month after the surgery. You should avoid heavy lifting for three to four weeks after your breast reduction and limit contact with breasts to very gentle contact for up to six weeks.
Breast reduction surgery is not recommended for women who are or intend to breast-feed since most of the milk ducts leading to the nipple have to be removed during the procedure. Although occurrences are rare, the risks associated with breast reductions include bleeding, infection, reaction to anesthesia, small sores around the nipples, slightly mismatched breasts or slightly uneven nipple placement, and loss of feeling in the nipple and/or breast.

THE BEST PLASTIC SURGEON! Dr. Rowe and his staff are amazing, accommodating, caring and comforting. I had consultations with many surgeons for a breast reduction prior and none of them made me feel as confident and secure about the operation as Dr. Rowe did. He educated me on my options and made sure I was going to get what I ultimately wanted. Post surgery, the staff was always available if I had any concerns no matter what time it was and follow up appointments were very hospitable. Recommend Dr.Rowe and his staff both for his work and their hospitality. He did an amazing job!
Dr. Rowe is an amazing surgeon. From my consultation to my surgery to my recovery Dr. Rowe and his team has been absolutely wonderful. My surgery went extremely well I was expecting to come in pain but I came out feeling better than ever. Later on that day I got a call from one of the ladies checking to see how I was doing and I thought that was so sweet of them. The recovery process has been amazing, my breast look so perfect and I feel like a brand new person.
